Durational performance for Art Spin, August 8, 2021

Art Spin is a regular Toronto event curated by Layne Hinton and Rui Pimenta, in which the audience cycles from station to station, taking in a presentation at each stop before moving on to the next one.

When the audience arrived at my site, they found me standing at a sawhorse with a sheet of plywood, some tools some hardware and a timer counting down from thirty minutes to zero. My task was to take those assets and build a functioning bicycle that would allow me to join the group for the next stop of the tour. The audience was instructed to leave when the countdown clock reached zero, with or without me.

The performance stemmed from a pandemic-era desire to reconnect socially and to participate in collective activities, while conceding the fact that there are barriers and anxieties that might accompany this.
