Black Light Thrift Store

2007, as part of PLAY/GROUNDS, curated by Elaine Gaito and Chris Reynolds.

A one day intervention in a Salvation Army Thrift Store in downtown Toronto. The store's regular lighting fixtures were replaced with CSI-style ultraviolet lights, which highlighted lint, spills, stains on the used garments. The gesture cast attention toward the indices of previous wearers, and proposed that these clothing items were on a 'continuum of ownership', something akin to a collective belonging.

Many thanks to Elaine, Chris, Louis, Maria, Jessica, Coleen and the Salvation Army staff.
